King Brand Rapid Healing Treaments...

Workouts this weekend included a couple miles on my treadmill. 2 hours on the bike trainer and 2 at home CrossFit workouts. I am trying to find that balance again.
At 36, I tend to deal with more muscle aches and pains. While I was at IRONMAN Louisville, Ali and I had the pleasure of meeting the awesome people from King Brand Healthcare.
King Brand® started with one main focus. Help our customers get the best medical treatment possible while in the comfort of their own home. It's our Quality Products and Exceptional Customer Service that make the difference. Helping customers get back on the road to a full, speedy recovery.
Ali and I got to try out the BFST Ankle Wrap.
How does the wrap work?

BFST® Devices are Electrical Medical Appliances that
actively stimulate blood

BFST® devices are NOT wraps or braces designed to simply lessen joint strain.

BFST® stimulates blood flow through the ankle tendons while the patient is at rest. This is very important because while at rest, an unaided inflamed ankle can otherwise have seriously impeded blood flow. It is the oxygen and nutrient rich blood that enables the healing process. Adequate blood flow is required for the tissue to heal properly and quickly.

We were so impressed by the King Brand BFST ankle wrap. Ali bought the cold relief for his Achilles pain and I went home with a soft tissue treatment for the leg. I have been having ITBS problems for the past 2 years, so anything that will help my upper leg and hip feel better I am all over it.

My son runs cross country for his school. He has really suffered a couple times due to planters fasciitis. Last Monday it was acting up at practice, so he was not able to run. He came home and I put the BFST wrap around his ankle, foot, and heal every night and morning for the next 3 days. On Thursday he was able to run in his cross country meet and come in 8th overall out of 100+ runners. He only had very minor pain following the race, which we have continued icing and wrapping it all weekend. He now has no pain.

Who wants to run the Spartan Sprint Race in Mississippi? Check it out...

Another great race coming to the Gulf Coast...
Spartan Sprints are muddy 3+ MILES / 15+ OBSTACLES course races. The challenging sprint races are a great way to get off your couch and start living. Beginners to hardcore warriors, and marathon runners alike come out to test themselves on the insane obstacles! This 5k race is comprised of mud runs, obstacles, trail racing, physical challenges and mental challenges all in a 3+ race. 99.9% of all people who try this event will finish, and 100% will have their thirst for mud fully satisfied!
That's right you guys its almost Spartan time down here in the South. On October 19th the Reebok Spartans are taking over Muddy Joes in Kiln MS and they want everyone to come have a muddy time.
Last year this race was considered one of the muddiest Spartans of the year. This year they are going bigger and muddier!
This is the BFF Jennifer before and after!
So the awesome people at the Mississippi Spartan want to give 8 people a really great discount on the race.
Basically your race entry would be free and the only thing you have to pay for is the insurance and fees totaling $15.35 and sign up to run the afternoon wave.

Who's ready to get dirty?
All you have to do is send me a quick email over to [email protected] letting me know you want to run it and I will hook the first 8 people up with a special code to register.
That's all!

Ironman 70.3, egg muffins, and my active kids update...

I have had a great week so far. As some of you may know, I am planning on doing the Ironman New Orleans 70.3 in April of next year. So I have been trying to do a little swimming, running, and biking every week.
My biggest fear is riding my bike on the road with cars:( If anyone has any suggestions on how I can get over that, please share.

Also I have been trying to get my nutrition back under control. I did a 40 day Paleo challenge at the beginning of the year. I lost 19lbs in that 40 days AND ran a marathon powered on sweet potatoes. I felt great, so I am slowly getting back in to that way of eating. One of my favorite things o make are egg muffins...
They are so versatile. I made these in every way I could think of. LOL!
I have even added cinnamon and pumpkin pie spice to make them on the sweeter side, they were delicious.
I also received this awesome book I the mail yesterday from the wonderful people over at Runners World Magazine.
I am so excited to start cooking my way through the book. I will be modifying a few recipes to make them more paleo, however the entire book looks amazing!
If your interested in getting your own copy.

I am a huge fan on keeping kids active. So a little update on my kiddos.
My youngest son is playing football. His team is 4-0 undefeated. I am so proud of him.
My oldest son runs cross country for his middle school. He has 1 XC meet so far and he came in 12th overall and 2nd on his team. There were over 100 runners in his age group. He has another meet tomorrow night, I will update on his race. He is a great runner.
Now my baby girl is transitioning from gymnastics to swimming. We are trying out something new. She had a wonderful couple of years at Planet Gymnastics in Mobile AL. If you are local and want a great gymnastics gym check them out. So now we are part of West Mobile Swim Team and she is LOVING it!

So this afternoon I have a date with my bike trainer and some Dance Moms. I also have some really cool race news coming tomorrow. Any of you guys like the Spartan? Well I have a special for you guys. Stay tuned.

I hope you guys have a great day!

Xtreme Obstacle Challenge coming to the Gulf Coast...

Guess what coming to the GULF COAST?
That's right, The Xtreme Obstacle Challenge is taking over The Wharf in Orange Beach on November 2nd. This race is not like anything you have ever seen down here on the Gulf Coast. Check it out...

F-U-N
I was excited to be asked to be an Ambassador for the Xtreme Obstacle Challenge. I will be bringing you the latest deals and news as they come out.

About the Course:
We keep the running to a 5k course because you'll need all your energy and speed to negotiate our playground.  Over, under, through, and around you will run, leap, crawl and power your way through more than 25 Xtreme obstacles.

Our obstacles are designed to test physical and mental toughness with challenges that can't be conquered with strength alone. Mental toughness and the ability to laugh at yourself (and everyone else) are key.  Hint: Work on your core strength.
Our course isn't hidden in the mud because the Xtreme Obstacles can handle all the attention.  None of the boring stuff you can do in your own back yard.
This is the experience of a lifetime.  Moving ground, twisting objects and all kids of mechanical mayhem make for a totally awesome, always-wanted-to-try-that, wow-that-is-harder-than-it-looked, freaking cool experience

What you get...
All participants receive an Xtreme Obstacle Challenge T-shirt with custom event artwork and an Xtreme Finisher's Medal!

Participants also enjoy live entertainment, free photos for sharing online and coupons for free food and drink! And, yes, there will be beer.
There is even a costume contest! Everyone loves to dress up.

Running Slow Still Makes You A Runner!

*I wanted to repost this after over hearing some ugly words from a couple ladies on the treadmills beside me today.

Running slow still means your a runner.
I am not sure who decided that you were only a "runner" if you ran under 7 minute miles, or if you had a 3 hour marathon. Yes, in order to be an "elite" runner you would have to have all of these qualities. However those of us who run average 10 minute miles and 5 hour marathons are still "runners".
I get very sad when I hear people online and even at races that say that they don't consider themselves runner because they still have to walk a little in races or they always come in after everyone else.
LISTEN:
If you RUN than you are a RUNNER!
OK?

Sometimes its fun to actually NOT be dying at the end of a race or a run. To say I ran 5 miles today and it felt great. My personal running experience has been slow and steady.
I have never won a race or even placed in my age group, but I am ok with that. I have finished every race I ever entered. And trust me there have been many. I have ran 26 miles non stop. I have ran with friends. I have ran by myself. I have ran fast sometimes and slow other times. The one thing I can say is I have ALWAYS enjoyed myself at races.
Running is not easy for me, I am not one of those people that cant wait to get out of bed to get my run on. I sometimes have to force myself to get out on the road to train. I burnout very easily. But what keeps me going is the thrill and excitement I get before every race, knowing that I am about to partake in something that I never thought in a million years I would ever do. I know a lot of you find it hard to run, physically and mentally. But I know that if I had to give you any advise at all, it would be to go sign up for a race and get to know the "faster" people at the race. Go up to them and say hi! You would be surprised how friendly runners can be. I have a lot of fast elite friends and they cheer me on the same as I cheer them on. Its an amazing community. So all I can say is
JUST RUN!

I will never understand why people feel the need to down grade other people in any way! My heart went out to the girl these woman were talking about. Please don't ever let anyone break you spirit. Do what you love and enjoy it!
Now SWIM time! This tri isn't going to do itself!

QOTD: Have you ever felt like you were not a "runner"?
Or not good enough to be called a "runner"?
