Getting my "Drive" back! BLAH!

I know I promised a final race recap on my epic Runners World weekend on Friday. However I decided to hold off until next week to recap as to not bore you guys to death:)

I have been feeling a little out of sorts for the past 6 months. Ever since I got back from San Diego RnR. I have kind of lost my drive to better myself. Yes, I still have raced and I have still have trained! But not like I should have.

I spent 2011, training, running, and living a healthy lifestyle which was rewarded by losing 50 lbs.

I raced almost every weekend...

And felt amazing.
Now fast forward to 2012. I have been on some amazing runcations.
RnR Arizona
RnR New Orleans
RnR San Diego
Dirty Mud Run Atlanta with Fit Fluential
And most recently the Runners World Festival with Fit Fluential

I have ran some great races and traveled to beautiful places but I haven't been "racing" anything!
I am searching for that drive I had in 2011 to race and beat my times.
Although I love not having that pressure I used to have on myself, I am wanting to feel that again.

As I enter 2013, here is what I am promising myself...

I WILL... race locally more for accountability!
I WILL... stop eating out of boredom!
I WILL... track my workouts!
I WILL...be more competitive with myself!
I WILL... step out of my comfort zone!
I WILL... spend more time lifting weights!
I WILL... reward myself!
I WILL... better myself through health and fitness!

I have been reading The Long Run by Matt Long.
I had the pleasure of meeting Matt at the RWhalf last weekend and hear his story.
The one question Matt asked us was
Would we have THE WILL to carry on?

I like to believe that I would, so high five to Matt for making me think about myself in a way I had never done before.

Meeting all of these wonderful Fit Fluential bloggers this past weekend also was a great kick i the butt o bettering myself, Thanks guys!
Oh and Shalane Flanagan, yes the Olympian!
She will inspire you just by how down to earth she is! Oh and shes super fast!

So as I make this journey back into my healthy life. I would love any words, advice, you can do its, I can get from all of you guys!

Accountability is my key to success in

QOTD: Give me any advice you can, Ill take it!...
Leave me a comment below, trust me I read them all!

  1. I like your plan to race locally. I'm going to try to do more local 10ks next year (my fave distance), and throw in a few longer races as runcations.

  2. I tried to leave a comment a few minutes ago,but it said it didn't go through....so if the other comment shows up, oh well!

I am with you on the "blah-mess" issue! I have been TALKING a lot about working on getting back to a healthier lifestyle, I just haven't actually been DOING it!
I am 58 years old and I have been letting the "I'm too old to improve myself" crap get into my head! Of course, there a a lot of people in their 80's who are running and staying fit...so I guess I can't really use that one! I have to work more on my weight and just healthy eating, along with setting a new goal for my next marathon. Accountability? Yes....that's what I need! I get so much motivation from reading your blog, as well as some others'.
BTW, I am a Southern woman...stuck (um, I mean LIVING in Connecticut!)...I love a lot of things about CT, but the winter running can be bad!

  3. Meeting Matt and reading his book has been SO inspiring for me!! I think by saying your goals out loud (or writing them on here) is a great first step! Maybe sign up for some smaller races (5K), get a base time, then sign up for another and try to beat it - gotta [re]start somewhere!!! xoxo

  4. Great goals girl! It is definitely hard to stay focused but that's why I'm always training...especially for local stuff so that'll definitely help! I have to have an end goal or I won't keep going...I wonder what I'll do after my 6 in 6 months goal and then a full...but living life itself is enough, be proud that you've don't some awesome things that not a whole lot of other people are doing! ;D

  5. I feel like setting a specific goal gets my drive back. When I reach a goal I have been working on for so long it takes a while to get going again. If I set another big goal that I know is attainable it really helps to keep me moving.

I have also found that finding new running partners locally has really helped me to getting my drive back. This past year has been a year of running with friends and I am loving it.

  6. You are so awesome! You are going to rock 2013. In the 3 days spent with you in PA I learned that you are determined and work hard, no matter what, to reach your goals.
