Running, Racing, and Crossfit, my thoughts...

Everyone has their own views on running, racing, and Crossfit.
Here are mine...
I have been running fro about 2 years now, and I have loved every minute of it. However about 5 months ago, I had some IT Band issues, which turned into a little sciatica of the nerves. Therefore after running the Womans Half Marathon in which I had to cut down to the 10k because of my hips hurting, I knew I needed to stop running for a while.
So, 6 weeks no running. UGH! In that time I also started to not feel good. My body was not doing well. I decided to go to the dr and get blood work done. Thank god the doctor found out what was wrong with me and I am feeling a lot better.
I had started Crossfit Coastline right before Christmas. I have always loved these type of workouts. I had done them before in the gym on my own, but OMG I love actually having workouts planned out for me, and someone pushing me. My trainer Jennifer, is kicking my butt! I love all the different things she is pushing me to do. Crossfit is amazing.
So how does Crossfit help my running?
I was skeptic about how and if it would actually help me. Since I have not done a lot of running because I haven't been able to run for 2 months. But I have been doing CrossFit 4-5 days a week. With that being said I ran the Double Bridge Run (recap coming tomorrow) this past Saturday morning.

I mentally told myself that I was not racing it, there is no way I can beat my time. I haven't run. I haven't "trained". I stopped 3 times to pose for pics. I stopped and tied my shirt around my waste. I was just having a good ole time on the course. I came across the finish line at 1:53:53. I decided to look at last years time 1:53:19. AHHHHHH
If I had not stopped all of those times, I would of blown my time out of the water. Whats crazy is I wasn't even trying  to race it. Now I am doing the whole what-ifs!
I fully believe that doing CrossFit had made me stronger, faster, and my endurance is better.
I am out to prove that theory to myself.
In 2 weeks I am running a full marathon with the BFF in New Orleans.

I am not stressing over my time in the race, I want to finish. However I will be pushing my body harder than I have ever pushed it.
So my answer to the Crossfit vs Running question is...
I believe that by doing both CrossFit and Running it will def mold me into the runner I want to be. Fit, Strong, and Fast!

QOTD: Have you done Crossfit before?

  3. Yes! I just started and so far I LOVE it. I am definitely looking forward to the benefits - being stronger, more lean, and see how I do this coming fall/winter races! Congrats on a great race this past weekend! Don't what if :) Just imagine how awesome you'll be next time!

  4. Way to blow your race out of range!!

I'm just starting back strength training after a ton of on and off again stops. And coincidence, a crossfit box just opened right across my YMCA. I've been wanting to try it. But I have not been able to push myself to pay $175/mo + $80 for YMCA (I need that for my kids and I swim there too). That is a LOT of $$ for fitness.
