Focusing on Training...

Definition
focus(n.)ˈfoʊ kəs- a central point, as of attention or activity.

So this is the definition of "focus" in the dictionary. You could take this in many ways, but I see it as centering in on one thing (marathon), training, and finishing.

I have always been the kind of person that has a hard time with "finishing" things. Now dont get me wrong, I can almost always "finish" a good movie, or a bag of chips:(. But, when it comes down to finishing something that I actually have to work at, I tend to give up!
My running has been something that I have worked hard at times and slacked at times. The first year of running, I ran like every weekend for about 9 mths, mostly 5k's with a few 10ks. Then I ran my first 1/2 marathon, 9 mths after I became a "runner".
Puffy face and all!
Yes, I do consider myself a "runner", and no one can take that from me. So back to focusing, I have got to focus on my marathon. I tend to get off track and then scramble at the end. I obviously cant do that and not die in a 26.2 mile run.

My FOCUS list:
*Eat clean for the next 4 mths. This is my biggest hurdle. I can eat clean for a couple of days and then have one of those ugh days and it all goes to crap. I looked in to the Paleo diet and I think I can follow this one at least 80% of the time. I am jumping into this one head first. I CAN DO IT, FOCUS!

* Follow my training mileage plan. I use an ap on my phone that I love and it seems like an easy plan to follow mileage wise. I CAN DO IT, FOCUS!

*Cross Train, Cross Train, Cross Train! I tend to not do enough of this. So I am focusing on 2 a days on shorter run days and cross training on the other.  I CAN DO IT, FOCUS!

*Weight training, I have always LOVED lifting weights. Lately for some reason I have not been lifting, so from this day forth it will be a 4 time a week thing.  I CAN DO IT, FOCUS!

*Drink more water. Water is all I really drink besides my favorite STASH tea, no sugar. But I need to drink more. I CAN DO IT, FOCUS!

*Involve my kids and husband in as many "running" activities as possible.  I CAN DO IT, FOCUS!

From this day forward its all about FOCUS, FOCUS, FOCUS!
Keeping my eye on the prize!

Sweat and all!

QOTD: What do you need to "focus" on?
Leave me a comment, I love hearing from you:)

  1. If you are going Paleo, please consider Paleo for athletes. Some carbohydrates and natural sugars and helpful in the recovery and fueling process. If you research this lifestyle of eating, you will find how to healthfully incorporate carbs so that you wont bonk during workouts.

  2. Good 4 u!!
I am trying to FOCUS too. I'm in week 3 of a 21 week plan for a half marathon. Running has been consistent for the last few mths but I recently started to limit calories and have added hot yoga once a week and the elliptical once a week (these I need to focus on and stick too).
Good luck with your training and FOCUS
